CA Arts: Applying the CA Arts Standards

The primary goals of the California Arts Standards are to cultivate students' artistic skills and competencies, foster their appreciation and comprehension of the arts in a way that is enjoyable, fulfilling, and transferable to personal, academic, and professional pursuits, and encourage them to engage in lifelong learning within the arts.

• The California Arts Standards are structured around five artistic disciplines: dance, media arts, music, theatre, and visual arts. These standards are:
• Process-oriented, providing grade-appropriate guidelines on the knowledge and abilities students should acquire.
• Student-centered and grounded in backward design, an approach that defines the intended learning outcomes before designing educational experiences to ensure students achieve those outcomes.
• Outcomes-based, communicating high yet attainable goals for students.

The standards aim to provide a comprehensive framework that supports students' holistic development in the arts, enabling them to explore their creative potential, appreciate artistic expressions, and integrate artistic learning into various aspects of their lives.
