Learning Activity

Being able to comprehend text and express thinking requires knowing the topic-specific vocabulary of the lesson concept(s).  Constructing Meaning is explicit language instruction to support grade-level content learning in English.

The 6 Steps to Constructing Meaning prepare teachers to understand the role language plays in content learning, backward map to clarify lesson goals, refine routines to support student discourse, use tools to help academic reading and writing, and examine student work to inform next steps.
