Discrepancy Model vs. PSW

The discrepancy model is a way to capture and compare a student’s scores on different types of tests. It compares assessments of a child’s intellectual ability ( IQ) with how much progress they're making in school (their academic achievement). (Understood.org, 2024)
The Patterns of Strengths and Weaknesses model seeks to determine why a student is performing poorly. Under PSW models, school psychologists look beyond a student’s overall IQ score and more specifically at the various cognitive processes that contribute to IQ.
