Why is SEL important?
Learning Activity
Social-emotional learning (SEL) is a key aspect a child's education because the development of these core life skills directly contributes to that child's success and happiness as an adult. A successful development of these competencies produces an adult that is capable of adjusting and adapting to their environment, maintaining healthy relationships, regulating themselves, and generally engaging with the world around them in ways that positively impact life outcomes.
Incorporating SEL into the learning environment can result in a variety of positive outcomes including but not limited to:
- Academic improvement;
- Better social interactions;
- Less aggressive or disruptive behavior; and
- Improved classroom behavior.
