Learning Activity

Mental health integration into PBIS implementations involves a continuum of interventions for each of the thee tiers. The school's PBIS team provides input for data decision rules and follows guidelines that assist the nomination process for students to move into a higher tier of interventions. There may be students who, upon review of available data, need to have an individual intervention (Tier 3) without the need to have had a lower intervention first. As teams begin to review data across tiers, they will identify the needs of the school's students and families within their school community and select interventions based on those needs. Protocols the PBIS teams commonly use to select an intervention include the Consumer Guide to Selecting Evidence-Based Interventions, the Hexagon Tool, and the NIRN Initiative Inventory.

Provide an answer to each of the items listed below:

  1. Which protocol(s) did your school use to select interventions?
  2. What is a guiding question that your school's PBIS team had (or plans to consider) when selecting interventions for Tiers 2 and 3?
  3. Name at least one intervention that was selected for each tier.
