Learning Activity

Social Emotional Learning (SEL) is an important factor in the development of all students. Teachers have the opportunity to incorporate short activities in their daily lessons that teach self awareness, management skills, how to make responsible decisions, social awareness, and relationship skills. All these are just as critical to teach as academics because it focuses on skills that will benefit them as future learners and in their careers. Providing short activities and modeling how you process things, can be a powerful lesson that teaches students these valuable skills.

Watch the video on Social Emotional Learning in the Classroom and take away some ideas that you can use for your students.

Choose an idea that you heard in the video and use the SEL activity with your students. Provide 3-4 sentences describing how it went. How did the students respond? What did you notice about yourself during the activity? How do you see yourself incorporating SEL on a daily basis?
