Introduction to the SEPs
Learning Activity
Science and Engineering Practices (SEPs) are the first dimension of the NGSS framework. SEPS are eight interrelated science and engineering concepts that are skills for developing scientific knowledge and technology.
- Asking questions & defining problems
- Developing & using models
- Planning & carrying out investigations
- Analyzing & interpreting data
- Using mathematics & computational thinking
- Constructing explanations & designing solutions
- Engaging in argument from evidence
- Obtaining, evaluating, and communicating information
These practices help students understand the work of scientists as well as how scientific knowledge develops. Students master the SEPs as they investigate relevant phenomena from specific content areas.
