Application of the SEPs
Learning Activity
Now that you've developed a basic understanding of what the eight SEPs are in NGSS, let's test how well you can recognize their application in a lesson. In an NGSS-aligned lesson, anchoring an activity or lesson idea to the chosen standards bundle (i.e., Common Core standards and NGSS performance expectations, SEPs, DCIs, and CCCs) ensures that the lesson components develop the knowledge and abilities required by the standards.
Linked in the Resources section are some example lessons:
"Competition" by the Concord Consortium and
"Flowers Seeking Pollinators" by the California Academy of Sciences.
Examine one of these lessons and, as you do, reflect on the SEPs and determine which SEPs the lesson has been anchored to.
