Science notebooks (a.k.a., interactive science notebooks) are a tool that students use to communicate what they have learned and their experiences of an inquiry-based investigation in a personalized, organized way. These notebooks motivate students to master the language skills necessary to think like a scientist and demonstrate their understanding of big ideas. Teachers use science notebooks because they are thinking tools, they guide teacher instruction, they enhance literacy skills, they can differentiate learning, and they support teacher and student collaboration (Kevin Anderson, 2013).
