As you've learned, integrating science and literacy together allows students to develop their literacy skills as they develop their conceptual knowledge on the given scientific topic.

Once you've identified an opportunity to integrate writing into your science lesson and the appropriate CCSS ELA standard, you can incorporate this writing through various methods. One simple way to encourage your students to communicate their understanding of your lesson material is writing with through writing prompts. For example, if you're targeting the K-ESS2-2 PE in your lesson, Honoring Our Rivers (2016) suggests the following writing prompt which also targets CCSS ELA W.K.7: A tree falls in the river and a beaver finds it. What happens next?

Create and deliver a lesson around a PE that also integrates a writing component.
