Shifts in Teaching
Learning Activity
The Next Generation Science Standards for California Public Schools K-12 (CA NGSS) differs from the NGSS national standards due to the inclusion of a few minor additions to some clarification statements. Further, the CS NGSS distinguishes the specific performance standards that should be taught in grades 6-8, while the national NGSS describe the standards for the middle school grade band. The NGSS also incorporates 15 required instructional shifts reflective of student-centered learning environments and deliberate instructional choices.
For this activity, take time to read the item "Instructional Shifts Required by the CA NGSS" linked in the Resources section. As you read, keep in mind how each instructional shift will impact how you deliver and teach lessons to your students.
