Learning Activity

During the 'Explore' phase of the 5Es model, teachers provide students with two or more activities that allow students to explore a new topic and ask questions. Through active exploration of their environment and/or manipulation of materials, students identify and develop concepts, processes, and skills about the science topic. Students build a set of common experiences which prompts sharing and communicating while the teacher acts as a facilitator, providing materials and guiding the students' focus (NASA, 2018).

Teachers can encourage student exploration in a new topic by using activities and tools such as online simulations, laboratory investigations, real-world problem solving, and 2D/3D models.
